The Secret Lives of  Honey Bees

SPRING FIELD TRIPS (May 5 - May 29, 2026)

We know them for their buzzing bodies, delicious honey and pollination work, but there is so much more to a honey bee than just their buzz!

This Spring, join us on a field trip and learn about some fascinating habits of our common honey bee.

Our Field Trips are designed to get kids moving and learning with their whole body.

With interactive stations making up our field trip, your visit will get you experiencing a working ranch, play time in the great outdoors as well as expanding your understanding of the modest honey bee.

We strive to offer an experience that leaves our guests enriched, intrigued and hopefully revived from some quality time in this great Central Oregon setting that we call home.

Field Trip Includes:

  1. A hayride out to our fields to feed the cattle and learn a bit about cattle ranching at DD Ranch.

  2. Play time in the Kids Korral and visit time with our Petting Zoo Animals. A giant gunny sack slide, swings, elevated fort and plenty of space for running and exploring are combined with a visit to the petting zoo. We have goats, sheep, pot belly pigs and loads of peacocks!

  3. An educational station where we dive into some of the mysteries behind honey bees and their habits.

  4. A chance to plant a small cup-sized wildflower garden, to take home and observe the changes from seed to flower.

At the end of our visit, students can take home a honey straw along with their wee wildflower garden in a cup.
